Pressure regulators
Properties that are served by private wells depend not only on pressure tanks for their water pressure, but on pressure switches as well. If the cut in pressure on a well system is not set properly, it is possible for pressure to drop to unacceptable levels before the pump will produce more water. A fast visual inspection of the pressure gauge on the well system will tell you if the system is maintaining a satisfactory working pressure. It is important, however, to make sure there is demand from a plumbing fixture while you are observing the pressure gauge. If no plumbing fixtures are being called upon for water, the pres-sure gauge will remain static at its highest level. To be sure the system is maintaining an acceptable working pressure, you must put a demand on the system. A pressure gauge that shows a sharp fall in pressure before the pump cuts on indicates that the cut in pressure is set too low. Going into the box of the pressure switch and adjusting the spring-loaded nut will correct this problem.
